Jill Hagar is a Certified Junior I Intermediate Iyengar Yoga Instructor and an Internationally Certified Yoga Therapists. She has been studying Yoga most of her life and studying Iyengar Yoga for 23 years. She is the only Iyengar teacher of this certification on the island of St Lucia. Traveling extensively most of her life has given her the opportunity to experience many types of Yoga.
Her teachers are among the most educated and well known senior Iyengar Yoga teachers worldwide. She has attended over 70 workshops and teacher trainings with her teachers and continues to attend 3-4 workshops, teacher training, therapeutics classes and general classes yearly to enhance her knowledge and teaching of Yoga. Each workshop or teacher training goes on for 3 to 10 days.
In 2006 she attended the Iyengar Institute in Pune India for one month to study with the Iyengar family, BKS Iyengar, known to be the foremost authority of Hatha Yoga in the world, his daughter Geeta, and son Prashant. To be accepted into this program one must be sponsored by a senior teacher, and have studied Iyengar Yoga for a minimum of 8 years. She had to have taken classes and workshops with senior teachers, have a regular personal practice including inverted poses such as headstand and shoulder stand. Each pose must be held for 8-10 minutes.
Jill also attended several conventions including the 2007 Las Vegas Convention to study with Geeta Iyengar, the 2016 Iyengar Convention in Boca Raton Florida and the 2019 Convention in Dallas, Texas to study with Abhijata, the grand daughter of BKS Iyengar. She also attended the New England Convention in 2009, the Washington DC Convention 2012, and the San Diego, California Convention in 2013.
In 2002 Jill was featured on the cover of “Vitalitat Erhalten” a book published in Germany on Yoga Asanas (postures) and Pranayama (control of the breath).
Jill is the director of “YOGA St Lucia,” which was previously named “YOGA on the BAY” the first fully equipped Yoga studio in St Lucia. She has been teaching Yoga for the past 21 years and conducts classes, workshops and retreats in St Lucia, the Caribbean and the United States. She also conducts private and group classes which deal with therapeutic issues.
With her passion for teaching she dedicates her life to the healing art, science and philosophy of Yoga.
